The Reference Manager tools are not showing up in the Add-Ins tab of Word 2007. How can I add them? |
Answer:
Reference Manager 12:
- Run the Reference Manager 12 Installer again
- Double click the installer file on disk or CD, or From the Windows Control panel, choose Add or Remove
Programs (or Programs in Vista), highlight Reference Manager 12, and click
Change.
If the program has already been installed on this computer,
you will be given the option to Modify, Repair or Remove.
- Select “Repair” and proceed with the installation.
Reference Manager 12 commands should now appear in your
word processor.
Based on our testing, Reference Manager versions 10 and 11 should load and function properly if the correct addin files are loaded in Word's startup folder. Please see the Word 2007 News page for further compatibility information.
To manually add the Reference Manager addin files to Word's startup folder, follow these instructions:
- Within
Microsoft Word 2007, go to the Office icon in the upper left, and click "Word Options" at the bottom of this window.
- Click on "Trust Center" on the left hand side, then on the "Trust Center Settings..." button at the bottom-right.
- Click
the Trusted Locations menu to the left, then highlight the "Word 2007 default location: StartUp" item in the list.
- Note
the path to the Microsoft Word Startup folder. The path should show up below the Trusted Locations items.
- Close
Word and Outlook if running.
- Launch
Windows Explorer and locate your Reference Manager folder. The default installation
path is "C:\Program Files\Reference Manager #\CWYW".
- There are two files in this folder you need to copy:
| Reference Manager |
Files |
| 11 |
RM11Cwyw.dot RM11Cwyw.wll |
| 10 |
RM10Cwyw.dot RM10Cwyw.wll |
If you do not see the .wll and .dot file extensions, go to the
Tools menu and select Folder Options / View tab. Uncheck the box
that reads "Hide file extensions for known file types" and click
OK.
- Locate
the Word Startup folder and paste these two files into this folder.
If you cannot find the specified folder, your Windows preferences
may be set to hide the folder. In this window go to Tools
/ Folder Options / View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files
and folders" is selected. In Windows Vista if you do not see the menu bar hold ALT to see the Tools Menu.
- Launch
Microsoft Word. The Reference Manager toolbar should now show up in the Add-Ins tab of the Word 2007 ribbon.
Before
you use the tools for the first time, close Word, then open Reference Manager
and a database, then re-open Word and click on one of
the Reference Manager tools. The programs must only be opened in this order
the first time you use the tools so that Windows will be
configured correctly.
